A message from Chairman John Bullock
Good day to you all and welcome to the first of our regular update briefs that we will endeavour to send out at least every couple of months if not more frequently.
You may ask ‘why is John doing this?’ It’s simple: there has been much talk of ‘lack of communication’ from the ‘Committee’ so this is one of the ways we are trying to correct this. There is however, a however!
As with everything within the Club this news is brought to you by ‘volunteers’ so may I firstly thank those who have written it but also ask that if you have something you would like to ‘communicate’ (and its legal and clean!) please contact either Jon Baglow (our Honorary Sec) or myself or be prepared to be volunteered!

An update on rugby from Graham Whitmore
The opening games of the season for the 1st XV in the Western Counties West League have proved very challenging.
Up to early October the side have played six games, including a terrific win against Wellington and a draw against Chard. Bonus points were earned in the narrow defeats at Wadebridge and Cullompton and other defeats were suffered at the hands of Tiverton and Bideford.
Some 32 players have already played, due to a growing injury list and unavailability of players, which has clearly had an impact on team cohesion and combinations. However, the squad has remained very competitive and positive, as we look forward to the upcoming games against Wiveliscombe, Kingsbridge and Saltash in the County Cup. I am sure the group will embrace the opportunity to test themselves, their skills, fitness, teamwork and above all their commitment to the cause.

A derby match preview from Tom Spiller
We caught up with Tom Spiller, 1st team captain ahead of next month's home derby against Penryn. The derby kicks off at 2.30pm on 16th November at the Rec.
"My first taste of a rugby match v Penryn was Boxing day 2004 as a 17 year old when we were plying our trade in Cornwall/Devon whilst Penryn were 3 leagues higher in South West 1."

The Thursday Volunteers
Paul Stephens and Dave Spear run the Thursday Volunteers – a group of primarily older gents that get together on a Thursday to make improvements to the clubhouse and grounds. Some of their projects are:
- Undertaking specific projects: recent projects have included building a shed for match day fees and adding white barriers around the pitch
- Keeping the buildings tidy, painting and repairing were needed
- Cutting hedges and weeds around the ground
- Recycling clubhouse materials and litter picking
The Thursday volunteers meet at 9am until 3pm lunch is provided. Contact Adrian if you, or a relative would be interested in helping out!
