Dear Players,

Welcome to the start of the 2016-2017 season at Falmouth Rugby Club. Following on from the strong foundation built over recent seasons, this year promises to be a challenging one for all players and coaches, with four new teams joining the league alongside a number of very ambitious clubs in what is proving to be an extremely competitive Cornwall & Devon league.

Training begins on Thursday 7 July and will continue throughout the season on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.15-8.45pm. We work hard for up to 90 minutes with the emphasis on game play, based around attacking and defensive team play, fitness and technical skills. Our aim is to make the sessions varied, enjoyable and inclusive and all current and new players are encouraged to attend.

We have pre-season matches for the 1st XV on 13 August against Crediton at home (to be confirmed), 20 August against Hayle at home and 27 August at Truro, before the league season begins with newcomers Topsham at home on 3 September. A complete list of fixtures can be found at the following link:

We cannot go into this season being anything but totally prepared and confident in our ability to perform well. We are building a strong squad with exciting and talented players, but we are all acutely aware that on their day all sides in the league have the ability to beat each other. When we get it right as a side the quality of our rugby is outstanding and our challenge is to produce this more consistently. We all know that to achieve our potential we must commit strongly to training and availability for matches on a regular basis.

This will be achieved by an individual and collective effort and a strong sense of team unity and spirit that comes from a group of honest, committed, resilient and respectful players and coaches. To this end I have included the league fixtures for 2016-17 and hope that you can organise your diaries to be available for fixtures throughout the campaign. Please note that any 'free' dates in the second half of the league season are likely to be filled with rearranged league fixtures.

We really look forward to seeing current and prospective 1st XV and 2nd XV players at training on Thursday 7 July for what we hope will be the start of a most fruitful season for Falmouth Rugby Club.
