We're sorry to announce the passing of former Eagle Roger Charlton. Roger, 56, sadly died after a routine operation on the 8th of November and will be deeply missed by the club, and the wider community.
Roger played his first game for the Eagles in the 1981 season on the wing, and earned several caps for Cornwall. A natural athlete, Roger also set a number of athletics records at Falmouth School. He was also known for his excellent singing voice, and would often use it to lead a post-match singsong.
Close friend Paul Radmore shared an anecdote on Roger's playing days: "When playing on the wing one Saturday, Roger was tackled and injured by an opposition player. Soon after, his mother ran onto the pitch and gave the player a good telling off". This caused much embarassment to Roger and he'd never live it down. He was also part of an infamous 80's fancy dress party dressed as Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.
Roger also worked at Falmouth docks, and in September received a 40-year long service award for his work as a welder and foreman.
There will be a gathering after the funeral at the club to remember Roger, details to follow.
