Honiton 13 - 28 Falmouth
In another week where the Eagles haven't had much luck with travelling, an accident on the a30 meant a delayed kick off at Allhallows. The game finally got underway at 20 past 3 and with Eagles choosing to play up the slope with the stiff breeze behind their backs. It was hard work in very soft conditions but some great interlinking play from forwards and backs allowed scrum half Joe Walker to cross over by the sticks to score on debut. Tom Spiller simply added the extras.
Territory was a must for the visitors and keeping Honiton out of clubhouse corner was the challenge. The Eagles once again got into the home sides 22 and this time it was forward power with Oliver Church getting over. Spiller again off the tee.
Honiton fought back and duly got over in the corner after an array of penalties and lack of discipline from the Eagles led to new signing Gideon Blacklock getting 10 minutes in the bin. Honiton also knocked over a simple penalty to bring the score to 8-14 at half time.
With Falmouth knowing 5 points was a must, 2 tries were needed and they came from blindside flanker Gideon Blacklock and a runaway try from veteran wing Nick Carne. Very fitting the bonus point try was scored by our number 11 wearing a blank shirt in respect on a day where we remember Jack Jeffery from Evesham RFC.. Both the conversions were added by Spiller.
Honiton did cross again late on from a line break and the home sides number 10 crossed the white wash, the conversion bounced off the upright and the Eagles played out the last few minutes to ensure 5 points on the road.
Our next league game is in two weeks time when we host Kingsbridge RFC at The Rec.
