This result is no surprise as Falmouth were overwhelming favourites against a Saracens team near the foot of the table but it is in the manner that the Eagles delivered that made this match stand out. A six try romp, Falmouth are playing some of the most exciting rugby seen at the recreation ground for many years.
The team are brimming with attacking intent and possess players throughout the side that demand to play with the ball in hand and they delivered again on Saturday.
Following an early Justyn Irons penalty, a break from Simon Bailey and a deft offload from Steve Instance to Mark Lea brought the first score. Then centre David Jones ghosted past the Saracens defence who encroached offside. From the kick to the corner AJ Geach controlled the drive over the line.
The Saracens contributed fully to the match, looking to move the ball whenever possible and ended the first period with a neat tap penalty, finished by centre Matt Hilton and converted by Andrew Clarke.
The second half started perfectly for the Eagles, following a knock on from the kick off, Simon bailey picked up from the scrum, flicked a pass to centre to Tom Edmonds on the crash ball who bundled over between the posts, Irons converting.
The next score followed a neat line out move, Saracens expecting the catch and drive were outfoxed by the ball being switched back to Steve Instance, rolling back the years and diving over. However, the effort obviously took its toll as he was sin binned at the next play for offside.
The visitors utilised the man advantage with their own period of control and following a series of penalties prop forward Rob Siddons scored from close range.
The Eagles once returned to full numbers and with strong contributions from substitutes, Ackner, Wilkinson and Cock dominated the final 20 minutes, Irons adding to the scorecard with a further penalty.
It was the three Toms, Simmons, Job and Spiller who built the platform for David Jones, showing balance and pace, to score the next try as Falmouth, spread play across the field creating havoc through the Saracens defence, Irons converting before finishing the match with a try and conversion of his own, darting over the line with a quick tap penalty.
Exhilarating stuff, the sort of rugby that brings a smile to your face, anyone that enjoys a running game of rugby really should visit the Rec next time the Eagles play at home.
